P. Brent Nichols, Ph.D., CSO
Principal Scientist

Dr. Nichols, CSO and Principal Scientist received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of South Florida in Tampa (2005) and a Masters in Ecology from Jacksonville State University, Alabama (1999). His career experience began in 1996 as a field scientist for NASA EPSCoR where he investigated the potential use of aquatic plants in phytoremediation of heavy metals and canopy structure and spectral reflectance of under story shrubs. Dr. Nichols’ scientific expertise is in terrestrial and marine ecology, particularly invertebrate systematics and seagrass ecology. He has conducted marine surveys in conjunction with NOAA National Marine Fisheries, the Florida Oceanographic Institute, and the Florida Marine Research Institute and has consulted in both Florida and Alabama for the past 13 years. He is an AAUS certified research diver, PADI Cavern diver, and NAUI rescue diver. He has currently published research in five major scientific journals and has logged over 800 hours underwater. Dr. Nichols currently serves as the principal scientist for DNA Environmental and focuses his efforts on environmental permitting and regulation.
Jason R. Adams, M.S., CEO
Principal Ecologist

Mr. Adams, CEO and Principal Ecologist, received his Masters in Ecology (2000) and Bachelors in Marine Science (1994) from Jacksonville State University, Alabama. Mr. Adams’ has over 15 years experience in environmental consulting and business management. His career experience began in 1994 when he began working as a field biologist for an environmental consulting firm in Mobile, Alabama primarily focusing on Gulf Coastal wetlands mitigation. Mr. Adams’ scientific expertise is in freshwater and marine ecology, particularly amphibian breeding ecology, wetland plants, and freshwater invertebrates. He has conducted hundreds of threatened and endangered species surveys, wetland delineations, and environmental assessments. Mr. Adams has worked for Everglades National Park (ENP) as a field biologist through the University of Florida conducting field research on the ecology of the American Alligator. Mr. Adams was also a field ecologist for the US Army Base Realignment and Closure Committee (B.R.A.C.C.) where he conducted wetland surveys and faunal habitat assessments. In addition, he has also been an undergraduate research scientist for the University of South Alabama surveying endangered sea turtle populations along the Alabama and Florida coast. Mr. Adams has created and taught environmental outreach programs for 10 years and is an accomplished public speaker.
